Ferrets can learn not to nip

November 25, 2008 DAVID B. BROKAW Orlando Sentinel I care for sick and injured ferrets. It is not a general dumping ground for unwanted ferrets, and I get little "kids" only by reference from one particular veterinarian. I have six ferret "kids" that are on medication and one that just came in that I might adopt out at the right time to a good family. Ferrets are among the top-three popular pets in the United States. They have been around for more than 3,000 years as a domestic pet and cannot live more then three days on their own because they cannot hunt and would starve. They must have human contact every day with anyone the age of 12 or older; children younger than 12 can harm ferrets. Lee Wise, Matthew Jaramillo Help Ferrets In Need November 24, 2008 The Denver Channel They are faster than cats and feistier than dogs, and when one of them is in need, this week’s 7Everyday Heroes come to the rescue. Matthew Jaramillo and Lee Wise started Ferret Dreams Rescue and Adoption in 2005. The pair has found homes for nearly 200 ferrets. The economic downturn has led to a rise in abandoned ferrets. "We have a unique niche in that we have the time and resources to devote to those animals with behavioral and medical problems," Wise said. Ferrets require a lot of stimulation, so Wise and Jaramillo have transformed part of their home into a ferret playground. Their basement is stocked with food and sleeping cages, and even has a medical station. Canberra men imprisoned after torturing and injecting ferrets

BY NOEL TOWELL The Canberra Times 28/10/2008 Two Canberra men have been jailed by a NSW court over the ''prolonged'' torture of two pet ferrets inJerrabomberra last year. Adriano Larobina and Thomas Sorahan were each imprisoned for 10 months by Queanbeyan Local Court yesterday after being found guilty of committing serious acts of animal cruelty. The two 26-year-olds continue to maintain their innocence of any involvement in the incident, in which a syringe was used to inject one of the animals with an unknown substance with the act of cruelty recorded on a video camera. On the recording, a man's voice, alleged to be Larobina's, says, ''He loves it, he'll be pinging in no time.'' The bodies of the animals were never found. Police prosecutor Rod Gordon told the court that the case was at the upper end of the scale of animal cruelty offences.
