BINOCULAR POISON BOTTLE KU-7 The Binocular poison bottle is one of the worlds rarest poison bottles, patented in 1905 by a Mr. G.J. O'REILLY on the 20th of April. The bottle has a central groove which goes from the bottom to the top on the back of the bottle,on the front only goes up half way, leaving space for a label. Viewed from the base this looks surprisingly like a pair of BINOCULARS. Only 3 specimens known,2 in aqua, and one in dense cobalt, the first one found was way back some 25 years ago,and is in an American collection and is just over 7" high, this aqua one is also a different size to the other later one found. The other smaller size and the cobalt bottle are in an English collection. SLUG POISON BOTTLE KT-7. This curious shaped poison bottle, which would have been in the KUtype if it had been listed,is only know in amber glass. One only has been found whole(has lip repair) and is a 2oz size.Patented byJ.DOWELL IN 1911 on the 25th of February. An advert from the period states"This bottle is of distinctive shape, will not stand up,no shoulders or crevices and is emptied without difficulty.Turning the bottle over reveals the word "WARNING". There is talk of 2 more known in Australia, but have recieved no proof as yet. Bottles and picture's fom the Brian Thatcher collection. SKULL POISON BOTTLE KU-10 This must be the most famous poison bottleknown, although strictly an American poison at least 2 sets were found some years back in a chemist shop in North Wales which was due to by refurbished, perhaps the chemist proprietor had sent to the States for a few sets and never used them. Patented by CARLTON . H . LEWE from Boston Mass. on the 26th June 1894. They come in 3 sizes, just under 3 inches, 3 and a half inches and 4 and a half inches, only found in cobalt blue. A guess at the amount in private collections would be 80 +, with the small size much the harder to find, many more must have been broken,as the glass gets very thin in places like the nose, which seems to be the most vulnerablyplace. The base has a set of crossbones embossed upon it. SUBMARINE POISON BOTTLE.KU-6. "SUBS"AS THEY ARE CALLED, ARE ONEOF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF ANY POISON BOTTLE COLLECTION, COMING INTHREE SIZES, 3, 4 AND 5 inches.REGISTERED IN 1899, IT DID NOT FOR SOME REASON RECEIVE ITSLETTERS PATENT TILL 1906 ON APRIL 12th.THIS TYPE OF POISON BOTTLE WAS INVENTED BY BUSINESS PARTNERS,G.W.J. WALKER AND H.J.W. MARTIN. THE BOTTLE WAS DESCRIBED AS"A BOTTLE FOR THE USE OF POISONOUS SUBSTANCES,MADE WITHTHERE NECKS SITUATED BETWEEN WILSON'S PATENT POISON BOTTLE KT-3 1899,THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF THAT YEAR PRODUCED NO LESS THEAN 10 NEW PATENT POISON BOTTLES,PERHAPS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT WAS A BOTTLE PATENTED BY J.WILSON.THIS POISON BOTTLE WAS TRIANGULAR IN SHAPE WITH SERRATED EDGES ON ALL THREE SIDES MAKING THE BOTTLE EASIER TO GRIP.ON 2 SIDES ARE VERTICAL GROOVES,WITH ONE SIDE PLAIN,"CAUTION" APPEARS ONE GROOVED SIDE WITH"NOT TO BE TAKEN"ABOVE THE OTHER,LEAVING THE WORD"PATENT" BELOW ON THE PLAIN SIDE. THE COLOUR IS EMERALD GREEN,AND IT COMES IN A NUMBER OF SIZES ,HALF oz, 1 oz, 2oz, 3oz, 4oz, 8oz, 10oz, 12oz, 16oz, AND A "BIG BOY"OF 20oz, THEY MAY ALSO BE MORE HALF SIZES. THIS POISON BOTTLE REMAINS A RARE ITEM. The 5 variations of the Wilsons are as follows. Most common is the variant NOT TO BE TAKEN and PATENT on one panel, with CAUTION on the other.No.2 variant just has the word CAUTION.No 3 Which is a little half ounce has no embossing at all, very rare.No 4. Has the same as No 1.but has PARKS DRUG STORES embossed on 1 panel.Last is the rarest of them all a 2oz with the No 1.embossing, plus MIRAM'S EMBROCATION down one panel, this the only one known. "BURGONS" AMMONIA KO-69 This very distinctive bottle with its Elephant trade mark is indeed a rare poison. coming only in aqua glass in the standard form. The embossing reads "BURGONS CLOUDY AMMONIA MANCHESTER". It is of oval form, with series of bumps all over the front, the back left plain to accommodate the label, standing just over 8" tall. An extremely rare version of this bottle has the word"POISONOUS"across the the front shoulder of the bottle and is cobalt glass, around 5 of this colour are known along with only possibly 2 in aqua with "poisonous" around the shoulder, the standard form without" poisonous"turns up very rarely. "CYONA" POISON BOTTLE KO-81 Although this poison bottle is a uniformed shape,it has the distinction of being one of the few pictorial embossed poison bottles. Of oval form with flat sides, the centre round convex embossing shows a horse about to be mounted by a rider, with the word "CYONA"embossed above. Ribbing across the front of the bottle is divided by the words "NOT TO BE"which runs up to the centre circle from the bottom , and "TAKEN"runs from the top of the circle to shoulder of the bottle. Only found in cobalt blue glass. Height 6 " plus. Pretty rare. CARBOLIC ACID POISON BOTTLES KR-4 THIS RECTANGULAR POISON BOTTLE IS JUST A STANDARD SHAPE WITH A B.I.M.A.L (BLOWN IN MOULD APPLIED LIP) LIP,BUT IS A VERY DESIRABLE ADDITION TO ANY POISON BOTTLE COLLECTION.COMES IN AMBER AND COBALT,THE AMBER VERSION TURNS UP A FEW EVERY YEAR,ALTHOUGH REALLY QUITE SCARCE. THE COBALT VERSION IS VERY RARE INDEED AND MUST NUMBER ONLY IN THE LOW TEENS OF KNOWN BOTTLES. STANDING 5" HIGH, WITH RIBBING DOWN THE FRONT AND THE WORDS "CARBOLIC ACID POISON" ON THE FRONT ,ON THREE RAISED PANELS,THE BACK IS PLAIN READY TO TAKE A LABEL. PICTURED IS THE ONLY ONE KNOWN IN LIGHTER BLUE GLASS WITH DARKER COBALT SWIRLS. COFFIN POISON BOTTLE KU-36 THE PICTURES OF THIS BOTTLE IS THE ONE SOLD RECENTLY AT AUCTION FOR THE STAGGERING SUM OF £6700( $10800) PLUS 10%BUYERS PREMIUM.
