Pork Scratchings Review

Hello, my name's Ludpig van Beetporken, and here's my pork scratchings review site. For those of you who have never heard of pork scratchings, they're pieces of pigskin covered in salt and deep fried - very unhealthy but quite tasty when done properly.   Latest news: according to Google, this is now the world's number one pork scratching review website!

Links:

A history of pork scratchings can be found here. As they say:'It would seem that Pork Scratchings were very much a food of the working classes with origins back to the 1800's where it was produced as part of the tradition of families keeping their own pig at home and feeding it up for slaughter.' There is a good pork scratching review site here. Another pork scratching site can be found at Pork Scratching World, although they don't seem to have any reviews yet.

The reviews...

by me, Ludpig van Beetporken KP Pork Scratchings (double roasted)The McDonalds of pork scratchings. Not even the picture of a busty blonde sow on the packet makes these snacks appealing. I have found these to be very variable - sometimes absolute rubbish, like licking the dregs of a chip fryer with a hint of salt - but sometimes passable, even tasty. This is the price you pay for mass production.Ludpig's verdict: 5/10. Butcher's Pork CracklingMmm, a very different quality of snack here. Not easy to find, more of a pub buy than a shop buy. Very much like the tastiest crisps imaginable, with just the right amount of salt and fat that gives a good juicy, almost meaty flavour.Ludpig's verdict: 8/10. Mr Porky's Pork ScratchingsOuch! These pork bits are very crunchy. Quite hard to the tooth. They have the texture and taste of bacon-flavoured popcorn, which is certainly pleasant, although overall the flavour is not as strong as other pork scratchings. This is not a bad thing, and Mr Porky (the friendly butcher with the big knife) is a safe bet for newcomers to the pork scratchings habit.Ludpig's verdict: 7/10. Big D Pork ScratchingsMmm, a very tasty packet. Cool, smooth, just a little salt, and it actually tastes like pork crackling, which surprisingly some brands of pork scratching don't. I'd recommend this one for those who are put off by the idea of eating a piece of deep-fried pork fat.Ludpig's verdict: 9/10. Disclaimer:This website is not sponsored by any company or agency associated with pork scratchings or any other salted snack.
