Africa   Collared Sunbird Anthreptes collaris ©Jens Eriksen http://www.sitecenter.dk/birds Southern Africa has plenty of relevant websites, especially in a commercial way. Some East African countries such as Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are also quite well represented but the rest of Africa is rather less well represented; many of the following links are to trip reports based in sites in Europe, North America and Australia.Leading the world in eco-tourism it would be nice to see a little of that revenue put in to promoting birding in Africa through the web. There could be ways for the rest of the world to help. When this Fat Birder went to the Gambia, and when he went to Kenya he took his old binoculars with him to give to a local so that they could make a living out of visitors by learning about the local birds and being able to show them to tourists. It may sound patronising but several people we know have said the same thing - that young men guiding tourists in the Gambia were just about the best at spotting the birds and ID of anyone ever encountered and usually with the crudest of optics. So this is one way many of us can help out and know that what we give goes direct to someone who could use a leg up.   Algeria | Angola | Benin | Botswana | Burkina Faso Burundi | Cameroon | Cape Verde | Central African Republic | Chad | Comoros Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire) | Djibiuti | Equatorial Guinea Eritrea | Ethiopia | Egypt | Gabon | Gambia | Ghana | Guinea | Guinea Bissau Ivory Coast | Kenya | Lesotho | Liberia | Libya | Madagascar | Malawi | Mali | Mauritius Morocco | Mozambique | Mauritania | Namibia | Niger | Nigeria | Republic of Congo Rwanda | R?union | Sao Tome & Principe | Senegal | Seychelles | Sierra Leone Somali Republic | South Africa | Sudan | Swaziland | Tanzania | Togo Tunisia | Uganda | Western Sahara | Zambia | Zimbabwe This page brought to you in association with:Birding EcotoursSuperb small group and tailor-made birding adventures that contribute to conservation and local communities. Its object is to promote scientific interest in the birds of West Africa and to further the region’s ornithology, mainly by means of its journal Malimbus (formerly the Bulletin of the Nigerian Ornithologists’ Society). 2003 [March] - Grand Tour - Southern Africa, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho Mozambique Swaziland - Jos Stratford

http://www.birdtours.co.uk/tripreports/s_africa/Jos-trip/intro.htmThis report is based on the findings of two complementary trips to Southern Africa – a ten-week trip to the west of the sub-continent (Namibia and the Cape Province of South Africa) and a fifteen-week trip to the eastern half of the region (Botswana, the east of South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique). The basic aim of the first trip was to cover Namibia in depth, attempting to pick up all the endemics and specialities, while also visiting most of the prime sites in the Western Cape, thereby also seeing the majority of the Cape`s special birds. The second trip had a rather different agenda – in addition to covering the eastern half of the sub-continent and thereby neatly supplementing the species seen in the west, it was also planned around a month of organised survey work in Botswana, covering both wetlands in the Okavango Delta and the south-east of the country...   tour operators

East African Safari & Touring Co

http://www.dreamweaver.co.uk/eastafricansafari/navigation.htmEast African Safari & Touring Co Serengeti, Ngorogoro Crater, Selous, Tarangire, Lake Manyara - evocative names that, for most people, define the safari experience as surely as the wildlife that inhabits them. If your previous travel experience was with the Discovery Channel or if you have tried safaris elsewhere, but believe there is still more to experience, Tanzania offers unparalleled game-viewing across as diverse a range of habitats and eco-systems as exist on the continent of Mother Africa. The wealth of options available within the major Tanzanian parks defies comparison with anywhere else on the continent or, indeed, the planet.

Merlan Adventure Tours

The wildlife of our subcontinent is legendary and this, combined with our scenic beauty and cultural heritage makes Southern Africa a place of renewal and a sanctuary for the soul.

Photographer - Peter Nilson

http://www.communique.se/medit/During the period June 1986 to June 1990, I worked in Maputo, Mozambique as an expert in graphic production of schoolbooks. The studies that I present here has been carried out during weekends and other spare time and are totally financed by myself. Unfortunately, the security situation in Mozambique put obstacles in my way to make more complete studies. I hope that the future will enable me or another person to continue these studies. Here I summarise the ringing results and biometric data collected during four years of sporadic ringing.
