The 2008 Pecos Experience: The Art and Archeology of the Lower Pecos was a resounding success. Dr. Carolyn Boyd, and Dr. Jo McDonald of Australia, accompanied participants to incredible rock art sites in the area. There were spirited discussions about interpretations and the research each is conducting in her primary study area. Even as the staff catches its breath from this program, planning has begun for next year's offering, and there is exciting news! Scheduled for October 11–16, 2009, Dr. Jean Clottes will be returning as the visiting lecturer. Do not miss this opportunity to visit rock art sites with this honored rock art expert.   Hands Across the Border! SHUMLA Launches International Learning Project With Grant From Alcoa Foundation SHUMLA's model for engaging kids in the excitement of learning has earned a well-deserved worldwide reputation for excellence in capacity building: developing and strengthening the skills, instincts, abilities, processes and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in the fast-changing world. In 2007, SHUMLA's international repute led Mexican legislators and educators to approach the Education Division of SHUMLA with a request to envision, design and launch SHUMLA's model across the border in Ciudad Acuña, Mexico. The vision has become reality with an $89,570 grant from the Alcoa Foundation, another $15,000 from the Amistad Foundation, and contributions in dollars and in kind from numerous partner organizations.
