In Bugs,Bones and Bluffs, campers will explore the varied natural environments from beach and glacial bluff to forest, pond and meadow and capture their observations through arts and crafts activities. They will put together skeletons of marine mammals, catch and learn about insects, find out about earthquakes detected on our seismograph, investigate the life in a pond, and make connections between fossil animals and their descendants alive today. With hikes, games and quiet times in a beautiful setting, this camp offers fun, hands-on experiential learning.BR> In Marine Biology Adventures Overnight and Day Camps, campers are immersed in scientific study, creative actives and respectful play. Activities include sieving through goopy sediments looking for brittle stars, pulling a seine net though eelgrass beds to learn where young fish hide and observing microscopic life that supports all life in the sea. These activities give campers the opportunity to learn about individual groups of marine plants and animals while taking an ecosystem approach to marine study. Adventures in Marine Research is a weeklong residential workshop for students entering grades 9-12. Students will explore research methods in our Discovery Lab using examples from real projects around Puget Sound. Travel to other research labs and restoration sites to meet with scientists working in the field, sail on the 68' Schooner Martha and snorkel around our dock to get a better understanding of our local environment. Then, after a week of exploration, formulate your own research hypothesis, create and conduct your experiment with full access to all our lab equipment.
