This land will serve for the establishment of an International Scout Centre and an accompanying campsite.  The public Contract for the allocation of the land at Ghajn Tuffieha for the establishment of the International Scout Centre and Campsite was signed on Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at Island Headquarters, Floriana. Present for the ceremony, besides The Chief Scout, the Deputy Chief Executive, members of the Scout Council, of the Executive Committee and of the Ghajn Tuffieha Project Team, Directors and Commissioners was the Hon Jesmond Mugliette, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Education. The Contract was signed by Mr Francis Flynn, Mr Kenneth De Martino and Mr Mark Pizzuto as Trustees on behalf of the Association and by Mr Albert Mamo as Commissioner of Land on behalf of Government. The Contract was read out by Notary Vincent Miceli, Chief Notary to Government. The Association will be holding this land on a long lease basis for the next forty-nine (49) years. In terms of the Contract, the Association is bound to hold a Mediterranean Scout Jamboree within two (2) years from the date of completion of the relevant permanent works on the site, which works have to be completed within the next three years. This effectively means that the date by when the Mediterranean Scout Jamboree should be held is that of 2006/2007. This is bound to be a great event for the Association that requires a concerted and time-consuming organisational effort from a considerable number of officials of the Association. It is opportune to point out that during 2007 the World Scout Movement will be celebrating its 100th year since its formation, and major international events, such as the World Jamboree, are bound to take precedence over other similar events. The Scout Council has therefore decided that the Mediterranean Scout Jamboree should be held in the year 2005. Such a Jamboree should be preceded by at least one National Scout Camporee in order to test not only the suitability of the facilities of the campsite but also to test the organisational aspects linked to such an event. The Council has therefore decided that a National Scout Camporee should be held in the year 2003 and that, moreover, this should be followed by another National Scout Camporee the year after, i.e. in 2004. It should be possible to invite a number of selected foreign Groups, who already have excellent connections with local Groups, to participate in the two National Scout Camporees of 2003 and 2004. Works on site, aimed at transforming the land into an international campsite have been taken in hand and are proceeding at a fast pace.    Click on these thumbnail pictures to see various aspects of the campsite as existing while works are being carried out.
